So we are not punctual !

After this long, most of you already know that about us and I’m not going to spend a long blog post with excuses for why we have still not officially “Launched”. For the ardent patrons who like to keep up to date with the latest at OSD and can’t live without a minute-by-minute updates of the company, I’ll give a one line explanation :

The usual stuff !! You know …. wives , girlfriends, procrastination, sheer laziness, etc. All we have to do henceforth is ignore all the above-mentioned and focus … and that’s it, we are sure to reach the deadline next time.

I can just about hear Akhil’s clenching fist and grinding teeth as he reads this !!

But just to be clear, we have a provision for ordering on the HomePage and although it is not as sophisticated as our future website, the orders are still pouring in. Keep ‘em coming folks !!

Now that I have that off my chest, I can update you guys with more important stuff.

The most-est important-est of ‘em all is the fact that OSD now has a Payment Gateway solution. Oh yeah !!

The lucky ones who actually managed to partner with us are the good folks at DirecPay, a venture by the TimeofMoney which, in turn, is a subsidiary of The Times Group.

Joby Varghese from DirecPay was especially very helpful fella and unlike the rude folks at CCAvenue he was actually very polite and helpful.

As Akhil puts it, customer’s will now get a “wholesome Shopping cart experience”.

And for once he would be right !! It really is a great experience, even if I say so myself, to browse for the correct Open source Distribution based on practical factors like number of media (viz., Single, Multiple), Type of Media (Live, Install or both), Type of Distro (Linux or BSD or Solaris) , Architecture type ( 32-bit, 64-bit or Independent) or the actual Distro Family and then finally check-out with options like NetBanking, Paypal , Cheque/DD/PO and Credit Card/Debit Card.

We are in the final stages of integrating it with out website and once that is done, a couple of days of testing and we should be good to go. Going by our history, I think we are all scheduled to launch by Diwali (…more clenching, more grinding… !!)

And finally as an update of Distros, we already have the latest Releases from popular Distributions ( Debian “Lenny”, OpenSUSE) and even addition of new ones like ArchLinux, DesktopBSD CDs, FreeBSD DVDs, etc. There are some screen-shots and Review links that I need to update, but I’ll do that ……..

…. soon !! ( ….. clench…clench….grind…grind…)

As of writing this article, about 350 startups were nominated.

The funny thing is that we ourselves did not nominate, although if we knew about this event we certainly would have. It was really flattering and humbling to know that someone thought us worthy enough to be nominated.

If you guys have had a good experience with OSD, you can vote for us HERE.

It’s not that bad though. It’s just our fourth !!!

Anyways, the important thing here is that we are constantly looking at ourselves in the mirror.

As of writing this article there are a lot of things still not upto-date on the site. For instance, the FAQ page, the Forums page, etc. Although functional, these pages still have to be revamped.

All said and done, OpenSourceDeal is BACK !!

We’re Bigger, We’re Better and We;re Uglier !!!

We have even wider selection of Open Source Distributions now. We will be having a Credit Card and Net Banking payment system in place.

Keep watching this space for more updates !!!
